On November 16, 2024, it will be 27 years since the passing of Veselin Temkov, known as the Patriarch of Bulgarian basketball. Temkov was born on June 3, 1916, in Pirdop.

During his playing career (1926-1949), he played for the teams "Sportclub," "Septemvri," "Levski," and "Slavia" and was a member of the national team from 1936 to 1949. He participated in the European Championship in Prague in 1947, where the Bulgarian team placed eighth.

In his coaching career, the legendary Veselin Temkov – known as Temkisha – led "Akademik" (Sofia), VIF, "Pirin" (Blagoevgrad), the national men’s and women’s teams, as well as the national teams of Nigeria and Singapore. Under his leadership, Bulgaria participated for the first time in the Olympic Games in Helsinki after earning a spot through two qualification tournaments. In the final stage of the games in the Finnish capital, our team finished in seventh place. That same year, 1952, also under Temkov's guidance, the women's national team competed for the first time in the European Championship, finishing fourth.
