130 Years Since the Establishment of the Yunak Movement in Bulgaria
Published on 23 January 2025 On January 21, 2025, 130 years were marked since the founding of the first gymnastics society "Yunak" in Bulgaria. This event signaled the beginning of a new era in the development of physical education and sports in the country. On this occasion, a modest celebration was held at the Educational and Olympic Center of the National Sports Academy, reflecting NSA's commitment to preserving and promoting national values in the field of physical culture. The event was organized by the faculty of the "Sports Management and History" department. The event was attended by students of NSA "Vasil Levski," Prof. Ognyan Miladinov – Vice-Rector, Krasimir Dunev – President of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation, representatives of the National Olympic Academy, as well as physical education and sports teachers from across the country, accompanied by their students from the 35th and 55th schools in Sofia. A lecture on the historical development related to gymnastics societies and their foundational role in the advancement of physical culture was presented by Prof. Lozan Mitev. Greetings on behalf of the Rector of the Academy were delivered by Prof. Ognyan Miladinov – Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs at NSA, and Krasimir Dunev – Olympic silver medalist, President of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation, and member of the Council of the International Federation. A temporary exhibition illustrating the activities of the first gymnastics society "Yunak" in Bulgaria was also presented. At the end of the event, attendees had the opportunity to view original documents, photographs, and artifacts from NSA's historical archive, showcasing the legacy of the Yunak movement in Bulgaria. |
