Sports Pedagogical Tests

  • ALPHA-FIT TEST BATTERY (Assessing Levels of Physical Activity (Ruiz R., 2010). Over the last decade, the ALPHA test has been the most commonly used test battery in Europe for children and adolescents aged 7–18. It includes measurements of: height, weight, waist circumference, skinfold caliper measurements (Slaughter et al., 1988) with two skinfolds, handgrip dynamometry for upper limb strength, long jump, speed and agility test, and endurance test.

  • FITNESSGRAM TEST BATTERY was developed in 1977 by Dr. Charles Sterling at the Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas, USA (Plowman, S.A., 2013). For this reason, it is more widely known in America. This test battery is distinct due to the larger number of tests for strength and muscular endurance included.

  • EUROFIT TEST BATTERY was developed in 1983 by the Council of Europe and is one of the most widely applied test batteries in Europe. The tests can be conducted by trained sports pedagogues in school settings. The Eurofit test battery is also used by sports clubs to monitor the physical development and functional capacity of children in sports. This approach is highly significant in sports practice for identifying individual "trainability windows" (sensitive periods) and for tracking the training progression of each individual.
